Unix Account (uisacad)
Network IDEvery student at UIS is assigned a Network ID (NetID.) The NetID is used to access information technology resources such as email, online courses, and online library databases and journals. (ex. For a student named Chris Tarragon whose birthday is Oct. 26, 1977, the NetID could be ctarr01s and the password would be 19771026).
The University email system is Microsoft Exchange. You are assigned a mailbox with 5MB of storage space. Your email address is YourNetID@uis.edu. (ex. Chris Tarragon’s email address would be ctarr01s@uis.edu) You can access your email in various ways, by using a web browser such as Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer.

Global Address Book and Distribution ListsYour name appears in the UIS Global Address Book as Lastname, Firstname (UIS Student). Your email address is also included in a student email distribution list, which is used for official university communications and announcements.
Library
Databases
The Brookens Library subscribes to a number of online databases and electronic journals. Licensing terms for some of these online resources limit access to UIS faculty, staff, and enrolled students. When you try to access these web-based licensed databases from off campus, you will be prompted for a username and password. Use your NetID and password to gain access.
Online CoursesTo obtain information about online courses at UIS, please go to http://online.uis.edu . Students taking online courses may obtain login information from their instructor. For technical assistance, students may contact the UIS Technology Support Center at 217.206.7357 or 1.877.847.0443 toll-free.
